Municipality of Byala

Byala is located between the north and the south, on the rocky shores of the Black Sea, It is a place with some of the cleanest air in Bulgaria.

The history of Byala goes back to antiquity, with the first settlement probably originating in the 6th century BC.

In Byala is also Cape St. Atanas – the place where you can see the late antique fortress, which was part of the large military defence system built under the Byzantine emperors Anastasius I and Justinian. The most interesting site discovered here is an early Christian Basilica, dating back to the 5th century. In Byala is also one of the oldest churches in the Varna Еparchy- “St. Prepodobna Machenitsa Paraskeva”, built in 1840-41 by the people of Byala. The temple is also a cultural monument.

In our beautiful town is the paleo-geological site Belite Skali (White Cliffs). The natural and geological phenomenon Belite Skali is a site of high scientific and ecological value. Some of the cliffs layers were formed after the collision of the Earth with a large meteorite 65 million years ago. The meteorite that fell to the Yucatan Peninsula in the Gulf of Mexico led to the mass extinction of organisms between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods and left geological traces in different parts of the globe. Belite Skali is considered one of the few accessible places where the natural phenomenon can be seen.
